Hello friends! Rose here!
First off, I wanna apologize for getting to this so late. I'd strongly prefer to get this out before AC closes for the month and that will usually be my plan. I was dealing with some bad mental health and a little bit of RP burnout, plus I was still hammering out some of the specifics for the Halloween event, all of which contributed to the delay. But thanks so much for the patience!
This month we will not be doing a mini event in an effort to catch our collective breath after the gala, so I'll just be talking about some other activities y'all can get into for the moment. The big focus will be our big Halloween event at the end of the month. Halloween's coming up fast, so let's get cracking!
Now that TDMs are 3-monthers and a bit lighter in nature, there's no serious rush to hop on the TDM as it will still be live until the end of November. However, please be aware that if you want to explore the Balverine situation or pick up Ghost or Dark type Pokémon pals, don't forget to catch that train before the end of next month!
Also, exclusively for the month of October, we've tacked the link to last year's Pumpkinfest event onto the TDM. As previously stated, we're avoiding doing a proper mini event, but Pumpkinfest this year will look much the same around town as it did last year! Feel free to make use of it in your open logs, TDM posts, player plots, etc. Technically it runs for the second to last week of October ICly, but feel free to forward-date it!

As the morning of October 26th dawns, you find yourself in a situation that is likely not too unfamiliar. Once again, you have been transported. Has the island been transformed or have you been pulled into a pocket dimension? Perhaps it doesn't matter. Regardless you wake in what appears to be an incredibly lavish hotel room, decorated in familiar blues, blacks, and golds. Everything is richly decorated, with plush bedding and elegant swags, and each room is outfitted with a balcony overlooking a deep, dark forest of enormous pine trees that make the ones in Lockwood Forest feel miniscule. It is beautiful and haunting, and something deep in your gut tells you that you could roam those woods forever and never find the end.
However, you are far from trapped. Exiting the hotel room, you'll find a sprawling resort with all manner of luxuries and indulgences, including a buffet with food so good that it's hard to leave, an open bar where the drinks flow freely, a fabulous spa with massages and saunas, a 24 hour cabaret, and room service for anything you could ever desire. And what's more, the staff will happily tell you that all of it is complements of the owner. Questions? They'll answer any that you have. Nothing here appears to be dangerous no matter how much you investigate. There isn't even any cannibalism happening. Despite this, though, you are being aggressively encouraged to indulge.
The main feature of the resort, however, is the casino. It's massive, with hundreds of gambling tables for any card or dice game you could possibly imagine, as well as an absolutely massive roulette wheel. You are given a handful of chips and informed of the prize counter--- try your luck at any game you please, and see if you can win your fortune. Surely the dangers of losing can't be more severe than just a loss of chips, right?
And if you're really in the market for a windfall, there is one game that relies more on skill than on chance which appears to be played outside. Perhaps some kind of race? You can speak to a bookie about placing a bet or becoming a contestant, or observe the game from a balcony wrapping around a particular fenced-in section of forest using elevated seating and magical screens. Apparently the payout for winning this game, simply called "PREY", is rather hefty, especially if a lot of the spectators have bet against you. Although you may not get a choice of whether or not you play...
GENERAL INFO:
The Black Stag casino is a working of Aster, the Prince of the Dark Feast, whose domain covers indulgence, hedonism, greed, manipulation, consumption, cannibalism---- effectively, it boils down to taking that which is not rightfully yours. As such, this is why you're being encouraged to indulge in the pleasures of the lodge. The amenities are genuinely not harmful, they are simply feeding and empowering Aster by being used. Additionally, there are some mild enchantments on the buffet, the cabaret, and the casino itself that encourage guests to stay longer and overindulge.
Some parts of the event are still under construction with regard to their specifics, but we're looking at having the consequences for losses be physically or mentally dangerous, perhaps just for critical failures, with critical successes being jackpots! There will be some math involved with calculating winnings, and you will have to actually win the chips required in order to gain the prizes via games of chance. What would a casino event be without a bit of gambling?
Additionally, Aster, Eligos, and Efrain will be around and available for conversation, but you will not be able to fight them at this time. No weapons will be accessible at the Black Stag Casino, and a mild bit of mind control prevents guests from using other forms of violence that even Neil's charms are not capable of overriding. The only ones who are fully immune to this are Alice Dyer and Samama Khalid, who are both noncombatants anyway. You are, however, free to talk as much shit as you'd like!
Attempting to exit the casino is entirely possible, but not advisable, as you'll be met with a long and grueling journey through an endless woods full of increasingly violent predators and thick fog. Conveniently, however, once you turn back, you'll find the path very easily traversed and the lodge only a minute or two's walk away, even if you've been travelling through the woods for hours.
You do need to eat and sleep as you normally would while at the casino. If you die during the event,you die in real life you wake up back in your hotel room. There is no official opt-out for this event, but you are only required to participate in elements you feel comfortable with.
LODGING:
All of the hotel rooms are the absolute pinnacle of luxury, done up in Aster's colors and style and come in a number of standard hotel floorplans, such as two queen or single king. Each room can house one to four guests which players can decide for themselves how they'd like to arrange. As long as there are 4 guests maximum to a room, and all players are okay with assignments, anything goes! Have fun! There can be as many rooms as are needed, so don't feel bad about taking a room for just one or two people.
Additionally, on the second floor there are VIP suites that are reserved for Aster and his special guests. The first two are reserved for people chosen by Dahlia, including Dahlia herself. The third is for Alice and Sam, as Aster continues to give special treatment to Alice after the gala. The others are for Aster, Eligos, and Efrain, with room for one guest if they choose one. ;) These are the only VIP suites available. The rest of the second floor is a handwaved amount of rooms for the guest villains.

THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME:
For the game called "PREY," the premise is simple. A Pumpkin Hollow resident playing the role of "prey" will be paired with a reasonably evenly matched "predator" of Aster's choosing. If the predator kills the prey, the prey loses. If the prey kills, incapacitates, or meaningfully escapes the predator, the prey wins. If the prey wins, they are given a substantial amount of chips, including a flat prize and a cut of the house's earnings on bets made against them. Easy, right? Except that the playing field is modified to the predator's specifications, giving them home court advantage.
"Predators" will be played by players, and anyone is welcome to sign up to play one via our guest villain claim, which has all the rules for signing up. If you want to claim a villain, you absolutely must have that character submitted by no later than October 25th, the day before the event drops. Same goes for if you want to change characters or drop a villain. Please do not sign up if you don't feel that you can complete at least one AC-length thread with your villain. Guest villains are also allowed to, but not required to, hang out in the lodge for the duration of the event, but will return to where they come from at the event's end unless other arrangements are made ICly!
Also, we strongly recommend you make use of the Villain's Lounge test drive meme to voice test your villain before bringing them into the game. There are several toplevels already up to tag into! I know that I personally would very much like an opportunity to test drive my own guest villain before the event launches.
Lastly, PCs will be able to bet on matchups of PREY with their chips! Bet on your friends! Bet against your enemies! Bet against your friends if you want, o ye of little faith. ;P And have fun!

Also, Elsie received an interesting letter from her father from beyond the barrier--- who informs her that he is an Archfey and a fairy king! It turns out that Elsie is a half-fae princess and the daughter of King Olwylder, who also let her know that her mother is not dead, but a sleeping dryad housed in the tree she calls home. Who knows how this will affect the future of the island!
This month will focus on player plots! Check out CitrusQuest, led by our own Sid! Additionally, Neil and Mulcahy will be investigating the Crystallizer of Dreams, an item owned by Calloway that seems to be what gives him the power to fetch items from other worlds, and Dr. Coldwood now has an assistant team that might be able to help him make some interesting discoveries!

CURRENT METAPLOT
Last month, Dahlia's heritage as the daughter of Prince Aster and the Pine Devil was revealed to the entire population of the island. Even if you didn't attend her birthday gala, this has been the topic on everyone's lips. The Ocularum also had a meeting to swap information about this and decide how to proceed. Additionally, the thread is still in progress, but ICly Prince Mendel died on the night of the party, leaving the demonic hierarchy down one Prince. One of Mendel's demons, Blanche, was also killed in the kerfuffle and had her powers absorbed by Siebren de Kuiper. SO. Leon's going to be patrolling the casino floor in a fit of (probably justified!!) paranoia the entire time he's here. Gambling and overindulgence aren't vices of his so he's pretty much just going to be very afraid and concerned for everyone else's safety - if anyone needs a killjoy to tell them to cut shit out and go rest, he's your guy.
Per plotting elsewhere, he's going to be rooming with SQQ, Anzu, and Lev/Lyubov, which will be great for his relative certainty that he's heterosexual that will definitely last through this event.
Last but not least, for the PREY portion of the event, I'm totally open to Leon winning or losing!! I'd love to give him a solid challenge that'll let him go all out on the absurd action movie stunts. For example, in one of the movies he crams a motorcycle into an elevator so he can ride it across the roof of a building and drift it into a giant zombie's shins, so like. That's the level of self-preservation instinct you're looking at, if you fight him. He may technically be a normal human man, but he's got busted pain tolerance, extensive combat training, and a willingness to relentlessly throw himself at monsters much bigger than he is.
I'm also bringing Brooke Augustine on the villains' side of things. The TLDR of her deal is that in terms of power, think Magneto, but with concrete instead of metal. She's capable of destroying entire bridges in a matter of minutes, constructing towering fortresses, armoring herself in asphalt, and generally just throwing chunks of the goddamn street at people, so uh. You'll probably want superpowers if you're fighting her? Honestly I'd really enjoy it if she got to win her match, but I'm open to plotting with whoever would like to go toe to toe with her!!

Rey | Star Wars AU
I should probably describe the nature of her AU: it hinges on the throne room scene in The Last Jedi where Kylo Ren offers Rey a place by his side. In this AU, Rey strikes a bargain. Spare the Resistance shuttles and in exchange, she'll stay. She does plan to take him up on his offer for teaching, but she's firmly resolved to stay on the Light and try to make her vision of bringing Ben Solo back into reality.
I'd love for her to room with anyone, really, though I hesitate to put her on the roster without clearing it with others first and foremost. I imagine she'd been tempted by the buffet more than anything, tons of food and she's encouraged to eat whatever she wants!
Gambling and drinking, though, will be sore spots since she's still smarting from Kylo Ren's description of her parents as dirty junk traders who sold her in exchange for alcohol. She can probably be talked into the former, or at least observing it, but at this time I can't imagine her being willing to go along with the latter.

David Xanatos | Gargoyles (Disney)
David Xanatos is a straight up baseline human with no magic and no uncanny abilities; that said, he's an extremely physically fit baseline human with a lot of combat experience, who's armed himself with a suit of flight-enabled power armor and a lot of beam and projectile weapons. Think Tony Stark and you won't be too far off, except that his aesthetic is a bit more animalistic; his suit has wings, claws on all four limbs, and a prehensile tail.
He's very good at complex bifurcating strategies, and to adjusting his approach on the fly as circumstances shift. He's also very good at reading people, predicting their behavior and persuading or manipulating them. (Full disclosure: he's probably better at both of these than I am, and I might ask for a bit of OOC collusion to get it right.)
I'm open to win or lose, either by mutual arrangement or by letting the dice decide!
Blue | Daisy, Ruby, Alice, Gwen, CT + Julia&Trevor
Alright let's try and get my ducks in a row here, starting with the big complicated part: the horrible father-daughter hunting duo I've got for PREY.
Julia & Trevor are a matched set who will be open to either 1v2s or 2v2s depending on player preferences. They're Hunters from TMA, which means that, like Daisy, they're physically pretty OP (supernatural strength/speed/senses, near instant healing, generally Do Not Go Down) but they can be defeated. Instant kill shots (primarily headshots) will take one down and they're weaker in the face of magic that they can't simply out-heal. They're also easy to distract or manipulate by threats or acts of serious harm to the other! I'm willing to work towards any specific outcome or play it by ear to see who wins or loses.
Their arena will likely be pretty simple, I'm thinking a forest with a hiking trail and a road running through it and various appropriate hidey holes. I'm also thinking that they might not always immediately reveal to their prey that there's two of them, as they have employed sudden ambushes from Trevor waiting in hiding before in the past.
They'll also just be hanging around the Casino for people to come and bother.
Alice is in the VIP suites with Sam thanks to Aster's preferential treatment, so the fact she's made some kind of deal with him is going to start being very obvious and I'd like to play with the aftermath of that more. She's going to be having a time with all of this and probably overindulging in alcohol and the like to deal with it.
Daisy is rooming in the VIP suites thanks to Dahlia. She's going to hate the vibes of this place a lot and I'm mostly going to just have to go on vibes and CR to see what she actually gets up to. Continued fallout from everything Pine Devil and so on is still on the table too since that relationship continues to be very public.
CT I don't actually have a room assignment picked for, so that's open, and I think she will play the games the most just because why the fuck not. She's not going to be relaxed in the slightest, but they're here now and she'll indulge a little whilst fruitlessly poking around on the side. Would love to continue trying to loosen her up/get some new CR or deepened CR going.
Ruby has her birthday on the 31st whilst they're here, where she's turning 20! She's probably going to spend a lot of time holed up in her room but I might be interested in her having to be nudged away from alcohol because she knows she's at risk of indulging in an unhealthy way but might not entirely stop herself.
Gwen will be turning 17 right after the event, which is worth knowing, but I don't have any hard plans event wise except just doing stuff with CR.
I'm thinking I won't be taking part in the PREY event as prey, as I'm already running the terrible twosome, but I might be convinced otherwise depending on threadload.

fever is going to be stressed but at the same time checking everything out in the lodge, since there's no real way to leave and one has to kill time until the 4th. basically if you need someone to get involved with anything, i can probably engineer her coming along, or yanking someone out if they're getting in over their head and need a rescue. she also is going to be in some of the PREY matches - contact me if you're interested in your character's opponent being a magic-wielding murderer who has no sense of true honor when it comes to winning. she's getting a tl, but i am happy to dispense her anywhere else.
helena is also going to be stressed and far more cautious about things. she'll be checking in on the people she knows frequently, concerned that they're at risk for being murdered or something worse, and trying to stay near company if possible. actually i completely spaced on getting her a roommate, so if anyone would like an extra roomie who needs you to keep the floor clear, let's go for it! i'm debating on whether or not to send her to PREY - as much as it would deeply, deeply hit upon her fears, she is a death game veteran who's accustomed to having to outrun and outscheme an opponent, so it could be very interesting! she is not getting a tl - i intend on tagging her out to others, so lmk if you want her in particular, or i'll just appear.

for PREY in particular, what her setup will be is escaping and maneuvering either a ruined churchyard or a decaying palace while she hunts those down. she's fast, extremely ruthless, and can summon a ghostly duplicate that might not be restricted by walls but still can stab you - but she's also vulnerable to being outplayed in many ways. if this sounds like your perfect match, let's go for it!

Gonna be having the worst time by far. This whole thing reminds him way too much of the Serena Eterna. He'll be generally paranoid and uncharacteristically angry, made worse by the fact that he's been roomed with Hawkeye. He's gonna be running around and checking on the people he cares about, warning them to avoid signing up for PREY because even though they haven't told him anything, the Serena Eterna has given him the gut feeling that it can only be a death game. For food, he's more inclined towards the simplicity of the buffet over the glamour of the restaurant, which unfortunately means he's gonna fall into that trap, but his food-related paranoias also mean that it's not always going to stay down. He's gonna explode at some point and wreck up some poor innocent slot machine and spend the rest of his time in a slump. Aside from scouting the entire grounds, he'll likely be found in the audience of some of the entertainment shows. He's a Hollywood buff, he likes a good show.

He's not gonna be good by any means, for many reasons including how close this feels to the ship, but he's not going to become a disaster. Hedonism is one of his vices. He will be spending hours in the tailor boutique, thank you. He may be spending an unfortunate amount of time in some of the bars, but getting drunk will at least make him feel so guilty that he promptly leaves. He's going to gamble at least a little bit. Maybe a lot bit, depending on how badly he gets caught up in the trap. Will definitely be haunting the hot tubs and the stores.

Aside from spending all his brass on magical combat gear, Link will be around and may sign up for PREY, depending on my thread load. He will be absolutely haunting the buffet and the restaurants and getting lost in there for hours and hours, and then more hours. It is an impressive feat to fill the black hole that is his stomach. He couldn't give a hoot about gambling, but he'll definitely be around the spa and the pool and stuff.

My predator for PREY, a matched set with Rosencrantz's Puck. He'll be... around. Disdainfully existing. He's not a huge fan of mortals, but this entire place is a side of the realm that he rarely gets to see, so he'll be in places. Just kind of. Watching. Unnervingly spectating the gambling tables. Maybe picking things up and inspecting them, and interrogating people and staff alike about what it is.
